Carelia Fight 9 is set to take place this Saturday in the city of Imatra that lies right by the Russian border in Eastern Finland. Our content partner FightSport.fi, Finland’s leading combat sport media, interviewed Marcelo Guidici while Esa-Pekka Räsänen had a chat with Team East Front’s Toni Tauru and Jani Ridasmaa. Here’s our quick notes from the interviews that were published earlier in Finnish.

Toni Tauru (6-1), who will fight French prospect Issem Hasni (7-1) : “I’ve been able to focus on training through the summer. I wanted to improve my strength levels after the last fight and I’ve succeeded in it. I was worried how the weight cut would be for this bout but now after a month of dieting I’m getting there already. I’m have been going full speed for two months now while staying healthy. I’ve tried to spar a lot with different types of training partners.
The plan is to win, obviously. I don’t think the fight will go to the judges. I think I’ll try to get to clinch position where I can deliver punishment to the opponent. I fully trust my stamina at the moment and I feel like the longer the fight goes, the more likely I’ll be able to finish him.

Jani Ridasmaa (4-2), who will fight Russian brawler Alexei Martinov (5-3): “Trip to Russia was alright (Ridasmaa lost by TKO cut). I went there to teach Siberia but it was the other way round. But now I’m feeling good about fighting in Imatra. Preparation for the fight has gone well. I’ve been relatively healthy and tried to focus more on grappling. I’ve seen couple of videos of the opponent. Strong looking dude who looks to be pretty good in all areas of the game. My plan is to put my fists into his mouth. I believe proper fireworks is going to go down and the fight will not go full rounds.”

Marcelo Guidici (8-4), who will fight Yerzhan Estanov (5-3) of Kazakhstan: “I can’t be more ready than this. All the pieces have now fallen into place and I’ve been able to concentrate on hard training. You can not enter the cage in poor shape. I have trained most of the time at Team Botnia Punishment’s gym in Finland but also around Europe in between seminars. Naturally I’m excited to return to action. I’ve never cared about my opponents doings as I have always focused on my own performance. I’m not going to predict how the fight will play out but I can guarantee one thing: I will put up a show for the crowd.
