Gunnar Nelson’s newest opponent will be American DaMarques Johnson, not Rich Attonito. Although Attonito did accept the fight against Iceland’s prodigy, he has since withdrawn. Nelson will still be making his debut at UFC on Fuel TV 5 in Nottingham, England.
“Concerns over making the welterweight limit on short-notice prompted Attonito to withdraw,” a source close to the fighter told MMAjunkie.com today.
Johnson has 1 win and 3 losses in his last three fights. Most recently, he was stopped by Mike Swick by a KO in round 2 in August.
Gunnar Nelson is one of the most anticipated fighters on the upcoming UFC card. He was was originally slated to face European fighter Pascal Krauss, but he had pulled out due to injury yesterday, so Nelson has had a revolving door of opponents in the last two days.
Nelson is undefeated, and will be on display on the prelim card, which will be shown on Facebook.
