Gunnar Nelson (16-3-1) was set to face American Neil Magny (20-6-0) on the UFC in Liverpool card back in May, but had to pull out due to injury.  “Still recovering from the knee surgery. Will be ready this winter though.” says the father and manager of Gunnar Nelson, Halli about his son’s status to MMA Viking.

“GUNNAR IS not ready to do a full camp yet. But getting there.”

Originally, Gunni said that he would “undergo an operation right away and I´ll be out for 8-10 weeks.” so there have been no setbacks in the timing of the recovery.

Nelson is coming off a controversial loss to eye-poker Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Fight Night 113: Nelson vs. Ponzinibbio back in July of last year, which stopped a two fight winning streak.

“I will keep on evolving as a fighter while I’m on the sidelines.” – Gunnar

The Mjolnir fighter won Performance of the Night with his submission of Albert Tumenov in 2016 and Alan Jouban in 2017.  Nelson has been in the UFC for nearly 6 years as he made his debut back in September of 2012 with a submission over DaMarques Johnson. He has an impressive 7 win and 3 loss record in the Octagon.
