The headliner at tomorrow’s UFC in Singapore Tarec Saffiedine was born in Seinäjoki, Finland. While he didn’t train MMA in Finland, the “Sponge” will take his 14 win and 3 loss record into the Octagon to face Hyun Gyu Lim (12-3-1) in his quest for another belt in addition to his Strikeforce Welterweight Championship. He will also be the first Finnish fighter fighter to headline a UFC event.

Saffiedine, who trains out of Team Quest, has been out of the cage for about a year, and looks to make an impressive start to his UFC career. In his last bout in January of 2013, the Belgian raised fighter destroyed Nate Marquardt with leg kicks in a five round decision.

Saffiedine was born to a Lebanese father that emigrated to Finland to study ophthalmology. His mother was Belgian, where he grew up and learned Taekwondo, which his father also practiced. As a teenager, he studied Shihaishinkai and also competed as a kickboxer.

Watch a preview of the main event, which will be shown around the world on UFC’s Fight Pass. The main card will start at 15:00 Stockholm / 16:00 Helsinki on Saturday.

Update

Saffiedine won a unanimous decision in a five round war with Lim via 49-46, 48-47, 48-47.
