With the UFC in Sweden coming to Sweden in April, MMA Viking takes a look at 10 Nordic fighters that would be ready to step into the Octagon. Stay tuned for more fighters coming each day.

Mikael “Hulk” Silander (8-1), Flyweight, Finland

The young Finn is like his nickname suggests a ball of muscle for a flyweight. Silander relies on brute physicality and high paced grappling in his fights.  Constant pressure on the opponents often opens up submission opportunities for Silander who has taken four of his career wins by submissions. In June of 2012 Silander dropped a close decision in a two round fight to highly regarded Russian Sambo champ Ali Bagautinov but quickly bounce back on the win column with a submission over American veteran Wade Choate at the Fight Festival 32 in October.

Silander’s best assets are his strength and grappling

Silander is still in development phase as a fighter and there are holes in his game but the Finn is a hard worker who trains at various different gyms in Finland and also had a training camp in the States in 2012. Currently the flyweight division in the UFC is far from stacked and that opens up an opportunity for a talent like Silander to get signed soon.
