Results & Play-by-Play

Round 1

The crowd welcomes the warriors as Wollinger then Nunes emerge, shrouded in light. Wollinger has a grim scowl on his face as he makes his way into the ring. Nunes dances and bounces his way out, the Swedish flag waving in iconic fashion on the gigantic screen behind him. The two fighters ready themselves, then come out to touch gloves.

Nunes opens with two inside leg kicks. A third. Wollinger attempts to close the distance but eats 2 consecutive body kicks. Wollinger leaps in with a lead hook that lands on Nunes’ guard. Nunes throws a flying kick, to no avail. Another leg kick to the lead leg of Wollinger. Again. Nunes looking for a real rhythm with kicks as Wollinger leaps in recklessly. Wollinger now bears a small bloody mark on his forehead. Nunes kicks to the lead leg, but eats a solid jab that backs him up. Wollinger pushes forward, but Nunes reverses him in the clinch. Wollinger reverses him in turn and lands a knee. This leads to a stalemate against the turnbuckle with Wollinger holding on to a single underhook on the right side. Nunes muscles him, and pushes him to the turnbuckle, taking his own underhook on the right side. They break and Nunes tags Wollinger with a left hand, followed by an upkick up the middle. Wollinger leaps in with a one-off right hand. Nunes with a left, right, left to the head as the round ends.

Round 2

As round 2 begins, the fighters touch gloves again, and Nunes starts early gauging distance with his right hand jab and left kicks to the body. Wollinger leaps in with another ineffectual punch, and eats a leg kick from the Swede, who then takes him to the mat with an easy double-leg. The Austrian places Nunes within his closed guard, but Nunes will not be contained. Nunes passes to half guard and begins to rain down blows to the head of the Austrian, who places Nunes back in his guard for a moment. Nunes returns to the Austrian’s guard in order to resume punishing his face, then briefly passes to side control, before Wollinger places him once more in his guard. Nunes works the body, then attempts to go upstairs. The Austrian warrior is doing an exceptional job of tying up the arms of Nunes, but the Swede stands out of his guard and passes to side control. The crafty Wollinger shrimps again, and puts Nunes back within his guard once more, where they end the round.

Round 3

As Round 3 begins, Nunes appears more spry, bouncing on his feet and throwing a kick to the leg. Now the body. Wollinger moves in and lands a left hand, but eats an uppercut for his trouble. Nunes tagging Wollinger with jabs before taking him down. A series of left hands opens the cut on Wollinger’s forehead further, apparently opening another. Nunes stands out of the guard and uses a huge winging punch to make his way into side control. Wollinger, however, sees the danger here, and returns Nunes to his guard. Big left hands land for the Swede, and the two struggle for position and purchase. Nunes appears to be landing short left hands to the head of the Austrian at will, but Wollinger pushes him off and Nunes stands. The ref stands Wollinger up, and the battle resumes.

A right and left combo, followed by a gut-wrenching knee up the middle by Nunes, followed by a left hook and follow-up shots on the ground ends the fight with Nunes taking the bout by TKO.

Winner, by way of TKO, Round 3: Max “Power” Nunes.

Nunes improves his record to 15 wins and 2 losses.
