Fighter Galla 5 took place in Drammen Norway this past Saturday… what´s the big deal you might ask yourself? In Norway full contact sports, like professional MMA and boxing, are illegal in Norway, but the Norwegian MMA Federation (NMMAF) are working on changing that. The Fighter Galla events are part of this work and the fifth galla was a humongous success for MMA in Norway.

600 people had met up to see 11 fights and they saw an impressive show. We will see some of this fighters fighting full contact in the future and some, like Nils Henrik from Tromsø have already made his debut in Denmark.

The president of NMMAF informed me that they have made the MMA Galla legal by altering the rules. The fighter are only allowed to punch 30% of their strength to the head, 80% to the body, kicks and elbows are forbidden, too. The fighters have to use leg protection and fighter gloves with more padding compared to regular MMA gloves.

So why have the galla you might ask? There are two reasons for this. Firstly it gives Norwegian fighters a chance to fight in the cage without having to take the trip abroad. Secondly it´s part of the work to make MMA legal in Norway and it works. Two of the parliaments politicians took the trip to Stockholm to be educated about the sport and to watch UFC in Stocholm. They where positive to the sport and where impressed about what this sport actually was about.

The work is paying off and Frontline academy who made the galla for NMMAF took a big step to make it a great MMA event. I´m really looking forward to see more of this in the fall!
