Dane Mikkel Parlo and Swede Andreas Spång will step into the cage tonight to take steps toward $100,000 and a shot at the middleweight division title for Bellator MMA’s Season 8 tournament. Two Nordic standouts are among eight of fighters in the middleweight division will fight that will kick-off the first round bouts tonight. Yesterday, the fighters stepped on the scale and made weight for Bellator 89 : Dantas vs. Galvao card.

Mikkel Parlo and Andreas Spång are just three wins away from winning the $100,000 tournament and a shot at recently crowned champ Alexander Shlemenko.  If both win tonight, they would be opponents in next rounds semi-finals.

Both fighters will be on the main card, which will feature all of the opening round fights of the middleweight tournament plus the headlining bout of Eduaro Dantas and Marcos Galvao. Bellator 89 takes place in North Carolina at Charlotte’s Bojangles Coliseum.

Spång hit the middleweight limit of 186 lbs. The Swede, who now resides in Las Vegas, upset Brian Rogers in the Season 6 tournament sending him to the finals last tournament against Maiquel Falcao. The Swede eventually lost to Falcoa in a decision in the finals, but looks to climb to the top for another chance at the title tonight against WEC light-heavyweight champion Doug Marshall. Marshall scored a 22-second KO over Kala Hose in his promotional debut at Bellator 82.

Parlo was just under the 186 lbs. middleweight maximum hitting the mark at 185.7 lbs. The undefeated Dane (9-0) meets undefeated Russian Sultan Aliev. Parlo beat Jared Combs in his Bellator debut with a nasty KO in the first round. Aliev is undefeated at 8-0, but mostly unknown on the international level.
