Alexander Gustafsson (18-4) is recovering from surgery. ”I hurt my shoulder right away” reveals the Swede about his injury that occurred when he went back to training after his big win over Glover Teixeira in May in Stockholm. “They put a metal plate with 3 screws until two weeks ago.” says Gustafsson on yesterday’s MMA Hour as he looks forward.

Gustafsson will be waiting to see if UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier or contender Volkan Oezdemir will be next. The two wills square off at UFC 220 in January. “I want to fight DC for the belt. I lost to him, so I want my rematch and take the belt from him.” says the Allstars Training Center fighter that lost a split decision in his second title shot back in October of 2015.

The “Mauler” doesn’t see any other option than to fight for the belt next. He is on a two fight winning streak with his prior bout over Jan Blachowicz in September of 2016.

“Spring or early Summer” says the light heavyweight about a time table for his return. “A couple more weeks of rehab, then I will start training MMA for real.”
