Alexander Gustafsson got major exposure to the US market at UFC 120 on Spike TV. The audience grew from 1.5 million to 2.5 million viewers for the main event between Bisping and Akiyama.
It was a bit strange that the Swede’s fight was not on the live broadcast through Canal+ in Sweden, but he was the first fight on the tape-delayed broadcast of the London 02 Arena event in the US. When the broadcasts were on TV4 Sport, they always showed the Swedish fighters, even if they were on the preliminary card.
Gustafsson’s impressive victory over Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate, who had not lost since 2008, and that was to the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Shogun Rua — Diabate he had one six straight victories since this loss, including his most recent TKO of Luiz Cane at UFC 114. Gustafsson’s impressive striking and eventual submission was an exciting fight that is sure to gain Sweden’s only UFC fighter more attention and hopefully get him on TV in Sweden next time!
